Julegaard
Cultivation
We cultivate the land regeneratively with minimal tillage. Every time we cut down a tree, a new plant is planted in the vacant space next spring. After 32 years of this method of cultivation, we have fertile soil with plenty of earthworms. Our cultivation areas are surrounded by windbreaks. Windbreaks with 18 different native shrubs and trees (e.g. Bornholm cherry) that provide rich biodiversity all year round.
We especially enjoy the variety of birds we encounter during our work in the farm: larks, wrens, nightingales, nightingales, robins, robins, woodcock, woodpeckers and many more.
Black newts and hedgehogs also live among our Christmas trees.
We have insect hotels in the field.
We regulate the width and height of almost all trees. We put bird spikes on all trees over 1.25 metres tall (we can’t completely avoid broken tops, so we try to establish new tops in various ways). We use thousands of branch straighteners to have symmetrical trees. In other words, our ambition is to deliver quality trees.
We sometimes employ labour and contractors from Bornholm.
Name of the day – Hanne Sonne
